About
I am a PhD candidate in (Transportation) Geography at McMaster University (Hamilton, ON, Canada), in the final year of my program, with my defence planned for summer 2027. My research uses spatial and statistical models to study transportation equity, particularly how access to jobs and opportunities is distributed across places and population groups in Canada, and to support more equitable transportation planning and policy. My educational background is in Environmental and Urban Engineering (UFABC, Brazil) and Remote Sensing (INPE, Brazil / McMaster University, Canada).
I work with Canadian survey microdata - the Census and the General Social Survey, through the Statistics Canada Research Data Centre, and the National Survey on Transport Poverty, and I build open tools for this research, including the R packages ActiveCA, CommuteCA and amazonULC. Before coming to Canada, I used remote sensing and machine learning to map urban and socio-environmental patterns in Brazilian Amazonian cities and precarious settlements in São Paulo.
Outside research, I teach spatial statistics and GIS at McMaster, facilitate the MePLUS science program for high school students from equity-deserving groups, and help run the Latin American Network at McMaster University.
